Release date: April 2, 2022. Effective starting May 1, 2025.

Employers who subscribe to Hound's premium subscription can post an unlimited number of job and shift opportunities, access our nationwide network of veterinary professionals, communicate with candidates directly through the platform, and more.

What is Hound's Veterinarian Placement Fee?

All Employers will incur a 10% placement fee (not to exceed $10,000) when hiring a W-2 Veterinarian they’ve connected with via Hound in the 12 month period leading up to the hire.

To further provide value and fairness to Employers, any subscription fees within a 12 month lookback period will be credited toward the applicable Veterinarian Placement Fee. No additional fees will be incurred to hire Veterinary Technicians, Receptionists, Assistants, or other Support Staff.

How does billing work for this fee?

A Veterinarian Placement Fee shall be incurred if an Employer hires a W-2 veterinarian with whom they connected via the Hound platform within the preceding 12 months.

Employers are required to report any qualifying hires within thirty (30) days of the veterinarian’s hire date to hey@hound.vet, or your account representative. Hound will send you an invoice for the balance owed, minus any subscription fee credits.

Hound’s platform includes multiple mechanisms for detecting when a hire has occurred, including but not limited to self-reporting by either the Employer or the Job Seeker. Payment of any Veterinarian Placement Fee is due within thirty (30) days of the hire date.

How does the credit for Hound subscriptions work?

Any Hound subscription fees (monthly or annual) paid by you or your organization within 12 months of your veterinarian hire date will be credited towards your Veterinarian Placement Fee. This credit will be reflected on your invoice as a deduction from the Veterinarian Placement Fee.

For example, if you have paid $2,000 in Hound subscription fees and hired a veterinarian from our platform, your total cost to Hound will be $8,000 instead of $10,000 ($10,000 veterinarian placement fee minus the $2,000 subscription fee credit).

Why is this fee in place?

This standardized fee reflects the significant value we deliver while staying well below industry norms (to date, our platform has enabled over $100 million in annual earnings for veterinary professionals). This Veterinarian Placement Fee is to align usage of our platform with the successful hiring of vets by our customers.

The cost of losing a veterinarian is significant. According to a 2023 survey by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), the average time to hire a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) is 15 months. Practices lose roughly $50,000 in revenue per month per unfilled DVM role. Putting those two numbers together, it can cost a veterinary practice $750,000 or more to lose a Veterinarian. We’re proud that Hound offers an affordable, streamlined, and mission-aligned solution to address this painful financial challenge.

Key dates to keep in mind:

  • New fees take effect April 30 or at your annual contract renewal

  • No fees for Veterinarian hires made before April 30 if you subscribed before March 31

  • Custom pricing remains unchanged for current contract holders
