Release date: August 19, 2025

Hound PayScore is our intelligent, proprietary scoring system that helps employers and job seekers quickly understand how competitive a job’s pay is.

Using data from thousands of jobs posted on our platform, PayScore compares pay ranges for each role to calculate typical averages and medians. Every job is then automatically assigned a PayScore tag:

  • Weak Pay

  • Average Pay

  • Strong Pay

  • Strong Pay tags appear on both the job card and the job detail page.

  • Average Pay and Weak Pay tags appear only on the job detail page (not the card)

For Employers

When you create or edit a job post, Hound automatically generates a PayScore for you. The score is based on the maximum pay listed in your posting (not the minimum). This way, job seekers get a clear picture of the potential earning opportunity at a glance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are PayScores calculated?

PayScores are determined separately for each of Hound’s five main positions—veterinarian, technician, management, assistant, and receptionist—using both median and average pay values from jobs on our platform. At this time, job location is not factored in, but this is planned for future updates.

Are PayScores different for $/hour compared to $/year pay rates?

Yes. PayScores are calculated separately for jobs paid hourly ($/hr) and annually ($/yr). This prevents distortion when converting hourly pay to yearly salaries, especially for relief shifts and other hourly roles.

What are the PayScore ranges?

PayScore ranges are proprietary and dynamic, meaning they adjust based on the thousands of jobs continually posted to our platform. Because of this, we don’t publish fixed figures.

Can we control the visibility of PayScore tags on our job posts?

Not right now. By default:

  • Strong Pay tags appear on both the job card and the job detail page.

  • Average Pay and Weak Pay tags appear only on the job detail page (not the card).

👉 Why it matters: PayScore gives job seekers instant insight into your compensation competitiveness—helping strong offers stand out, while giving employers clear signals on how to attract more candidates.
