There are a few different ways to search and get alerted about relief shifts on Hound, check out the article for step-by-step instructions on each one.
Searching for shifts:
Use the top search bar from any page and toggle to Shifts
Go to your Shifts page, then use the filters like position, location and dates to narrow down your search
Go to your Jobs page, then use the Keywords filter for "relief" or "locum"
Receiving shift alerts:
Go to your Notification settings, and make turn "shift alerts" are toggled on (your profile's job type must include "relief")
Follow practices from the Practice directory, and you'll be notified if/when they post new shifts (your profile's job type must include "relief")
Searching and applying to relief shifts are even easier now! With additional filters, pay transparency and shift dates clearly listed, you can easily browse, curate, save and apply to shifts that meet your needs. We'll cover how to search, filter and apply to shifts (look for the red box where we highlight the feature we're talking about in each picture).
Additionally, relief opportunities may also be found on the Jobs page, where employers sometimes post locum or extended relief needs or permanent W2 relief roles. Exploring both sections is recommended to ensure you don't miss any opportunities!
Search using the top menu bar
1. Click on the top search bar from any page to open the search menu.
2. Click on Shifts in the toggle.
3. Your current position will be selected by default, but you can also select any other position (most shifts are for veterinarians/DVM and technicians, but sometimes there are other roles available too).
Enter your current or preferred location (your city, state will autocomplete) OR type in the state. Then use the radius slider to customize how wide you want to search.
Use the date filter if you want to look for specific dates.
Click the Search button to see your results.
*Pro Tip: For best results, do a wider search first and then narrow down results using specific filters.
4. Your results will be shown on the Shifts page, with your search filters pre-applied. You can further customize results by using the additional filters on this page.
Search using filters on the Shifts page
5. Click on Shifts from the top menu bar and you'll see the most recently posted shifts on Hound. Use the filters on this page to narrow down your search.
Saving a Shift
6. To save a shift, simply hover the shift and click the bookmark icon. Employers will not be notified when you save a shift.
7. You'll find your bookmarked shifts on the Saved shifts tab of your Shifts page.
Applying to Shifts
8. Once you find a position you're interested in, click the Apply button from the shift card or from the shift detail page.
Note: applying to a shift does not automatically book the shift - it's a way to start a conversation with the hospital before confirming the booking. Learn about the shift booking process here.
9. After clicking "apply", you have the option to include any comments and/or attachments with your application, such as negotiations or special requests. You will be notified of any responses from the employer, which will appear on your messages page. If the employer who posted the shift approves you, this doesn't mean that the shift is booked yet! There's one final step - you need to confirm this shift in order to secure the booking.
10. After you apply to a shift, this shift will now move from your open shifts section to your bookings section, under the "applied" label. If the employer approves you, you'll get a notification of the approval and the shift will move under the "pending" label of your bookings section.

Receiving shift alerts
Sometimes you won't find shifts near you, but don't be discouraged - new shifts are added daily! To ensure you're receiving a weekly summary of new shifts near you, turn on your "shift alerts" in your notification settings. Here's how:
11. Go to your Notifications settings by clicking on your profile image or initials in the upper right corner, then click on Notifications.
12. On the Notifications flyout, click the gear icon to go to your notification settings.
13. Toggle on both the "followed job/shift posts" and the "shift alerts". These are different emails, and we'll explain how each works below.
Followed job/shift posts:
Every time a practice you follow posts a new job or shift, you will be notified.
Whether you receive a notification for new jobs or new shifts depends on your profile's work type - see step #14 below for details.
Shift alerts:
A bi-weekly summary of new shifts posted that match your current position, location and any desired relocation(s).
14. Make sure your profile's job type includes relief to receive either email. This is important to indicate to our platform that you're interested in receiving shift-related notifications.
